Bringing Us Together So We Can All Go Further

 Kenya Pension Funds Investment Consortium

KEPFIC is a consortium of prominent Kenyan retirement funds working together to collectively make long-term infrastructure and alternative asset investments in the region.

Through recent provisions in the Retirement Benefits Authority investment guidelines, Kenyan pension funds can now invest up to 10% of their assets into infrastructure, effectively unlocking over USD 1 billion into the asset class.

What are the challenges to infrastructure investing that KEPFIC seeks to address?

Infrastructure investments are capital-intensive, require specialized investment and operational expertise, and extensive due-diligence processes which are difficult and often expensive for individual pension funds to carry out alone.

There are over 1,300 pension funds in Kenya, which would all benefit from infrastructure investments but which on their own may be unable to do so effectively.

Through KEPFIC, these pension funds can pool their resources along with partner co-investors, and share in the infrastructure investment expertise and benefits that KEPFIC will provide.

Our Goals

Pooling of Assets for Infrastructure Investments

Through the pooling of capital with like-minded pension funds, KEPFIC is able to invest in a diverse set of large opportunities within each pension fund’s regulatory limits minimizing concentration risk.

Select Suitable Investments

KEPFIC will develop a robust investment pipeline, provide the initial deal screening, qualitative and quantitative analysis, and due diligence to member funds.

Attract Co-investment from International Investors

Local investor participation is often a pre-requisite for the involvement of offshore investors and co-investments with global pension funds enables KEPFIC to participate in infrastructure opportunities of considerable size.

Capacity Building

Our mission is to build the infrastructure investment capacity of member funds and the institutional investment ecosystem in Kenya as a whole. KEPFIC will organize various capacity building initiatives with specialized infrastructure investment experts and will be a resource for research and publications on alternative assets.

Grow Membership and Enhance Collaboration Between Pension Funds

Through KEPFIC, like-minded pension funds collaborate and co-invest in sustainable infrastructure investments. In addition to capacity building, KEPFIC organizes networking initiatives with both local and international pension funds to grow and further strengthen our investment partnerships.

Advocate for Members Interests

KEPFIC is in constant engagement with our respective regulators and policy makers, representing our member’s interests and contributing to a supportive investment landscape.
